Larry Allen Hovland
April 03, 2025

It's with great sadness we announce the death of Larry Allen Hovland on March 24, 2025. Larry was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota on October 28, 1949. Larry lived with his wife, Marsha, Pelican Rapids, MN. He retired from the US Postal Service where he worked the rural route for over 20 years. As a result, he considered himself a "professional driver"
Larry served in the US Navy from 1969-1973 with time spent on the USS St. Paul and USS Fiske in Vietnam. As a result of this service Larry contracted Agent Orange. Larry was active in collaborating with other veterans to ensure they obtained necessary resources for Agent Orange treatment. Larry was a member of the Pelican Rapids V.F.W. and was still serving as an Honor Guard for local veterans' funerals. He even made a special "veteran's golf cart mobile" to transport locals in area parades.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Marsha, brothers Lonny (Lisa) and Lyman and sister Lynette (David Lehn), niece Paula (Nick) and nephew Darren and their children. He is also survived by Marsha's children, Zach (Joy), Jorge (Melanie) and Marissa and was a very special grandpa to her grandchildren, Eliana, Caleb, Reese, Emmett, Havana and Luca. Larry enjoyed watching NASCAR with them and sharing all his outdoor "toys" with them. He is also survived by many lifelong friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Ardis Hovland.
Larry traveled extensively throughout his life enjoying many new experiences. One of his favorite sayings was "you don't go on vacation to save money"! Larry enjoyed fishing and golf and rarely passed a casino without stopping. Larry was a proud veteran, a loving brother, and a devoted husband. The world lost an absolute legend, and we'll miss him always. There will be a visitation at 10am followed by a memorial service at 11am, Friday, April 4 at North Immanuel Lutheran Church, 12713 Co. Hwy 30, Pelican Rapids, with lunch to follow. An honor guard service will be held at Fargo National Cemetery in Harwood, ND at 2:30 following lunch. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
